The 16th edition of the Asia Cup 2023 is nearing its end as we know the two teams that will play for the trophy. Colombo, on Sunday, will witness the summit clash taking place between India and Sri Lanka. Ahead of the final on Sunday, former Indian player Irfan Pathan took to Twitter to poke fun at Pakistan.

The Sri Lankans have won the title on 6 occasions the last title triumph came in 2022. Sri Lanka had beaten Pakistan in the final to claim the 2022 title. India, on the other hand, has won the title 7 times. If the Indian team wins the title on Sunday, it will be the 8th occasion they will have won the title. India last won the Asia Cup in 2018 under Rohit Sharma.

Irfan Pathan tweets about the 2023 Asia Cup final –

Former Indian player Irfan Pathan is known for his banter with Pakistani fans on Twitter. The 38-year-old was at it yet again on Friday as he took to the social media platform before India’s game versus Bangladesh.

Irfan Pathan wrote, “Playing finals against Sri Lanka will be better for team India as it won’t be a one-sided affair”. The tweet came a day after Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka and failed to qualify for the final.

Pakistan, on Thursday, lost the game to Sri Lanka in the last ball of the game. Chasing 252, Sri Lanka needed 6 runs from two balls left. Charith Asalanka hit the ball for four to make it two needed off 1 ball left. Superover was also on offer if the game ended in a tie.

Debutant Zaman Khan came in as Asalanka tucked the ball past the square leg umpire. The Sri Lankan batters completed two runs as Asalanka celebrated with glee. Babar Azam was left teary-eyed at the end of the game.

It was a cruel blow for the Pakistani team as they had come into the tournament as favourites. Babar Azam’s team had been crowned the World Number 1 ODI side just before the tournament.

After posting a huge win over Nepal, Pakistan’s next game against India was washed out. The Super-four stage began with Pakistan winning against Bangladesh by 7 wickets. This was followed by back-back losses to India and Sri Lanka.
