On Monday, October 20, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced a strong 14-man ODI squad for the forthcoming England series, which is scheduled to start at Bay Oval in Tauranga on Sunday, October 26.
Kane Williamson, Nathan Smith, and Tom Latham have returned to the squad after earlier taking part in the ICC Champions Trophy Final against India in March 2025. Williamson has been recovering from a minor medical issue in the past month.
On the other hand, Smith has been rehabilitating an abdominal injury sustained during the first Test vs Zimbabwe in August. Meanwhile, Latham returned to the side after rehabilitating a left shoulder injury sustained earlier this year.
The squad will be led by Mitchell Santner, with 23-year-old Zak Foulkes the only player included who wasn’t part of the Champions Trophy campaign. Foulkes, Jacob Duffy, Kyle Jamieson, and Matt Henry will form the same pace-bowling unit from the ongoing T20I series, with Santner, Smith, Michael Bracewell, and Rachin Ravindra as the all-rounders.

“Mohammad Abbas (ribs), Finn Allen (foot), Lockie Ferguson (hamstring), Adam Milne (ankle), Will O’Rourke (back), Glenn Phillips (groin), and Ben Sears (hamstring), were all unavailable due to injury,” the NZC statement read.
New Zealand coach Rob Walter stated it was great to welcome Kane Williamson and Nathan Smith back into the environment. Furthermore, he also talked about Tom Latham coming back to the squad.
“Kane and Nathan have had to work hard to overcome their respective injuries and illness. We all know what Kane means to the BLACKCAPS - to have his skill, experience, and leadership back in the group is fantastic,” Rob Walter said.
“Nathan’s still relatively new to his international career, but he’s impressed with his all-round skills and ability in the field. Tom is a great leader of this group, both on and off the field. Having his experience and someone who has been a consistent performer for the team is fantastic,” he added.
