In an interesting turn of events, Cricket Nepal is all set to host the West Indies national team in a bilateral three-match T20I series in September at a neutral venue at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah.
Confirming the series between the two nations, Cricket West Indies (CWI) issued a statement, calling the series ‘historic’ and a ‘significant milestone in the ongoing mission to grow and globalize the game of cricket’.
The three-match series will be played on September 27, 28, and 30 ahead of Nepal's participation in the men's T20 World Cup Asia qualifier later this year. Moreover, the West Indies is expected to field a competitive squad, according to its statement.
"This series is more than just a set of international matches - it's a celebration of the game's expanding global footprint and a testament to what cricket represents: pride, purpose, and the power of unity. As a full-member nation, we see it as part of our responsibility to contribute to the development of cricket beyond our borders,” CWI chief executive Chris Dehring said in the statement.
"Supporting Nepal in this key phase of their cricketing journey not only builds the sport at the grassroots and international levels but also reminds us of the deep pride and honour associated with representing our nation and wearing our national colours. We are proud to stand with Nepal at this moment in their history and look forward to exciting and competitive cricket in Sharjah."
It’s important to note that the West Indies national team is currently touring Ireland for a three-match T20I series. On the other hand, Nepal is touring Scotland for a T20I tri-series with the Netherlands and Scotland.
Speaking about the ICC T20I rankings, West Indies, the two-time World Champions, are ranked at the fifth spot while Nepal is at the 18th spot.
