On 16 July 2023, South Zone won the Duleep Trophy after defeating West Zone by 75 runs at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Speaking of the match, the final began on 12 July and the West Zone skipper, Priyank Panchal won the toss. He elected to bowl first. While batting first, South Zone got bundled out for 213 runs in 78.4 overs.

Skipper Hanuma Vihari was the highest scorer with 63 runs off 130 balls. While Shams Mulani was the star with the ball as he took three wickets. In reply, the West Zone batters failed miserably as they got bundled out for just 146 runs in 51 overs. Only Prithvi Shaw scored 65 runs off 101 balls, including nine fours. Apart from him, other big names like Cheteshwar Pujara, Sarfaraz Khan, and Suryakumar Yadav failed to make a mark. 

South Zone have now won this Duleep Trophy for 14 time

Thus, the South Zone managed a healthy lead of 67 runs. Vidwath Kaverappa grabbed seven wickets in that innings. After that, in their second innings, the South Zone again got all out on 230 runs in 81.1 overs. Thus, they set a target of 298 runs for the West Zone. In that innings, Vihari was again the highest scorer with 42 runs off 89 balls, including seven fours. This time it was Dharmendrasinh Jadeja who grabbed five wickets.

But, it was another flop show from the reputed batters like Pujara, Sarfaraz, and Suryakumar Yadav. Even, Prithvi Shaw failed to score big as only skipper Priyank Panchal smashed 95 runs off 211 balls. Thus, they got all out after scoring 222 runs in 84.2 overs. This time both Vasuki Kaushk and Sai Kishore took four wickets each. However, Kaverappa won the Player of the Match award for his bowling performance. He took eight wickets in the game while winning the Player of the series award also with 15 wickets in his bag.
