On 15 June 2023, the debacle over Asia Cup came to an end as it is finally going to happen from 31 August to 17 September. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) have approved the hybrid model that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed earlier. Now, four matches will be played in Pakistan and the other nine matches will be played in Sri Lanka. Reports have come out that both Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer are looking to make a comeback in the tournament.

Both these players had back surgeries recently. As a result, Bumrah missed the IPL 2023 for MI and Iyer for KKR. They even missed the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Currently, they are in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for their recovery. Bumrah last played for India in September 2022 while Iyer was a part of the playing XI in the Ahmedabad Test against Australia before the IPL.

Pakistan will host a multi-nation tournament for the first time in 15 years

Speaking of the tournament, the PCB chairman, Najam Sethi shared his happiness and thanked ACC for accepting the hybrid model for the competition. He said: "I am elated that our hybrid version for the ACC Asia Cup 2023 has been accepted. This means the PCB will remain as the event host and stage matches in Pakistan with Sri Lanka as the neutral venue, which was required due to the Indian cricket team's inability to travel to Pakistan.”

"Our passionate fans would have loved to see the India cricket team in action in Pakistan for the first time in 15 years, but we understand the Indian Cricket Board's position. Like the PCB, the Indian Cricket Board also requires government approval and clearance before crossing borders. I now look forward to continuing our discussions and deliberations with the ACC and Sri Lanka Cricket to iron out a few minor operational and logistical details so that we can launch our event planning and preparations," Sethi concluded.
