Gujarat and UP locked horns in the third game of the ongoing Women's T20 League 2023 at the D.Y. Patil Stadium, Mumbai. The Ahmedabad-based side was coming off a 143-run defeat against Mumbai in the tournament opener. On the other hand, UP was playing their first game. Meanwhile, in the game, the Orange Army, Gujarat won the toss and elected to bat first.

Stand-in skipper, Sneh Rana at the toss spoke about the fitness of the regular skipper Beth Moonet. For the unversed, the latter picked up a knee injury and was forced to retire hurt during the run chase in the last game. Meanwhile, Rana said "It is still to be told, we are waiting for an update," on Mooney's injury. For the first time in the tournament, a team batted first after winning the toss.

Batting first, the Sneh Rana-led side had a poor start as they lost four wickets for 76 runs. At this stage, the likes of Harleen Deol (46) and Ashleigh Gardner (25) put together 44 runs for the fifth wicket. Dayalan Hemlatha (21*) provided the finishing touches and helped the team reach a competitive total of 169/6.

In reply, the Yellow Brigade had a horror start as they lost three wickets for 20 runs. The likes of Kiran Navgire and Deepti Sharma put together 66 runs with the former doing most of the scoring. However, after the wicket of Sharma (11), the team was reduced to 105/7.

At this stage, the end was nigh for the Lucknow-based side. However, Grace Harris and Sophie Ecclestone had other ideas. Apparently, they put together an unbeaten 70 runs for the eighth wicket. Harris scored 59 off just 26 balls including seven fours and three sixes. On the other hand, Sophie got 22 off 12 balls including a six and a four. This partnership helped the team pull off a win from the jaws of defeat.
