DC vs SRH, IPL 2023 (Source: Twitter)
The 34th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) featured the Sunrisers Hyderabad playing hosts to Delhi Capitals. The last day of the tournament saw Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings emerge victorious in their doubleheader clashes against Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The visiting captain, David Warner, won the toss and elected to bat first. However, it was a forgettable batting performance from the team representing the national capital. Skipper Warner’s struggles with a lower strike rate continued as he could only get 21 runs in 20 balls. Mitchell Marsh with 25 off 15, Manish Pandey with 34 off 27 and Axar Patel with a run-a-ball 34 were the only notable contributors in their innings as they closed out on 144/9 in their 20 overs.
Delhi Capitals are still placed at the bottom of the table with four points from seven games
For the home team, Washington Sundar remained the pick of the bowlers with a three-wicket haul. He conceded 28 runs in his four overs, whereas experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned with two wickets, conceding just 11 in his four overs. Natarajan also picked one wicket with three runouts in the first innings, remaining the highlight of SRH’s fielding display.
In reply, the Sunrisers Hyderabad could only manage 137 runs for the loss of six wickets in their quota of 20 overs. Their innings remained one with regular wickets. Mayank Agarwal, with 49 off 39, was their highest run-getter, followed by Heinrich Klaasen with 31 off 19. A final push by Washington Sundar, scoring 24 off 15, could not take the home team over the finish line as DC won by 7 runs. For the visitors, Anrich Nortje and Axar Patel returned with two wickets, while Ishant Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav returned with one wicket apiece.
Next, in the Indian Premier League’s sixteenth edition, the Gujarat Titans will host the Mumbai Indians in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While GT pulled off an exceptional win defending a score of 135 against LSG in the last game, MI are coming off a loss at the hands of PBKS in a contrasting high-scoring clash.
