Rohit Sharma-led team India is constantly under fire from harsh criticism from Indian cricket fans and former cricketers following a humiliating loss in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Notably, the men in blue were completely choked in the second semi-final of the tournament against England. The three lions’ opening pair of Alex Hales and skipper Jos Buttler completely exposed the Indian tactics at the highest level of the game.
Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board is still scrutinizing the loopholes and the reason why everything went south for the Indian team in the all-important clash against Jos Buttler’s men.
Subsequently, some of the media reports have learned that the Board is also in conversation with the former legendary Indian skipper and multi-time World Cup winner legend MS Dhoni. The biggest cricketing authority in India wants the 41-year-old in either of the roles with the Indian team.
The same media reports also understand that the Ranchi-born former Indian legend will bid adieu to all forms of cricket after the conclusion of the 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League.
Earlier, the 2011 World Cup-winner skipper had also worked with the men in blue as an interim mentor during last year’s 20-20 World Cup played in UAE. Although, this move couldn’t capitalize for the Indian team during the seventh edition of the 20-20 World Cup as they were knocked out in the Group Stage of the tournament.
According to the Indian cricket Board, this move will also release some amount of workload from the current head coach Rahul Dravid.
Hardik Pandya reported to take over the captaincy duties of the Indian team in T20Is
Amidst all the news and media reports, there are also speculations Rohit Sharma stepping down from the leadership role in the T20 internationals and Hardik Pandya might take over the duties from the former. Notably, the 29-year-old guided the news entrants Gujarat to lift the title in the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League.
Speaking of Dhoni’s addition to the management, the development of the story is not confirmed by either of the sources in the Indian cricket Board. But it would be an exciting element for the fans to see their beloved Dhoni back with the Indian team.
