Former England spinner and analyst Monty Panesar has asserted that India should bring in the left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh into the playing XI in the Manchester Test. Notably, the left-arm pacer earned his maiden Test call-up for the England tour. However, he is yet to make his Test debut.
With India already on the back foot, Panesar has stated that Arshdeep Singh can perform well in the Manchester Test, as the conditions would suit him. It’s important to note that he has played 21 first-class games, scalping 66 wickets.
"Arshdeep Singh needs to play. I am surprised that he didn't play the first Test match. He can bowl good angles, and a left-arm seam is going to be a really good option. He should be very good on these English conditions," Panesar told ANI.
On the other hand, Panesar also wanted Jasprit Bumrah to play the Manchester Test as it’s a must-win game for the Men In Blue. Notably, the Indian seamer is expected to play only three out of five Tests on England tour.
"Jasprit Bumrah should play the next match. It is a must-win match for India. They need to play their best attack. Bumrah has to play the next Test. It is the pitch with the most pace and bounce in the country, so he has to play," he added.
Notably, the Indian team's assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, has reckoned that the Indian pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, would be playing the Manchester Test with India trailing the series by 1-2 with one more game to go.
“We'll make that call on Bumrah in Manchester. It’s clear the series is on the line now, so we're leaning toward playing him. But we must look at the bigger picture - how many days of cricket we expect, our best chance of winning in Manchester, and how that fits with the Oval Test that follows,” Ryan ten Doeschate stated in the media briefing.
