The BCCI was blunt in their criticism of Mohsin Naqvi's actions following the Asia Cup 2025 final at the Dubai International Stadium, which stoked tensions at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting on Tuesday.

After the Indian camp refused to accept the trophy from him, ACC chairman Naqvi, who is also the head of the PCB, appeared to walk off the stadium with the title on Sunday, September 28, setting off unprecedented scenes.

Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the BCCI, said the organization would submit a "strong" rebuttal at the ICC Meeting later this year. During the ACC meeting, Ashish Shelar, the former BCCI treasurer, and Rajeev Shukla, an ACC executive board member and the current BCCI vice president, blasted Naqvi and his antics.

BCCI reps fire into Mohsin Naqvi over holding the Asia Cup trophy hostage

As per the Hindustan Times report, the BCCI was adamant that they receive the award as quickly as possible. Naqvi maintained that he felt "disrespected" and was unaware of India's intention to deny him the award.

When the medals and the Asia Cup trophy will be handed over to India, this decision will be deferred, as there was no solution found during the ACC meeting. Naqvi argued that he was disrespected and had no prior knowledge of the Indian team's decision not to receive the trophy from him. He claimed that the BCCI never wrote an email to him about such a situation,” sources privy to developments told Hindustan Times.

However, Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar, who represented the BCCI in the meeting, argued that the trophy is not a personal belonging of any individual, as it is a property of the ACC, and it should be handed over to the rightful winner. Since there was no amicable solution, the decision has been deferred to another meeting,” he added.

According to internal meeting information, Naqvi even went so far as to claim that everything that happened late Sunday night made him look like a cartoon character. India launched Operation Sindoor, which targets terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), after a terror attack in Pahalgam claimed 26 lives.

Throughout the tournament, neither team's players shook hands with the other. But when India won the summit match, the drama and controversy escalated as chaos erupted during the post-match presentation.

The post-match presentation was delayed for more than 45 minutes following the conclusion of the Asia Cup final. The Indian team was prepared to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Khalid Al Zarooni, the vice chairman of the Emirates Board, but Naqvi was adamant about sticking to his plan to give the trophy away.

Ultimately, Naqvi left the Dubai Stadium and seemed to take the Asia Cup trophy to his hotel room as the evening came to an end.
