Speaking on his YouTube channel, Shami stated that the selection is not in his hands, but it is up to the captain, coach, and the selection committee to select the players. Moreover, he asserted that he has been in good rhythm as far as fitness is concerned.

For the unversed, Shami’s last international game came in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in March earlier this year. Though he was consistently part of the domestic circuit, he wasn’t selected for the national team since then.

"There have been many rumors and memes. People want to know my opinion on the non-selection for the Australia series. I will just say that getting selected is not in my hands; it's the job of the selection committee, coach, and captain. If they feel I should be there, they will select me, or if they feel some more time is needed, it's in their hands. I am ready and practicing," Shami said on his YouTube channel.

"My fitness is also good. I will try to do better because when you are away from the ground, you need to remain motivated. I played in the Duleep Trophy. I felt very comfortable, my rhythm was good, and I bowled around 35 overs. There are no issues with my fitness,” he stated.

For the unversed, Shami’s exclusion from the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy 2025 in England raised many eyebrows. However, the selectors made it clear that the pacer wasn’t fit enough to bowl long spells in the longest format of the game. Moreover, he was also axed for the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025 campaign, which India successfully won.
