Ace Indian pacer, Mohammed Shami and Navdeep Saini are all set to make a cut into the Indian team for the remaining two Tests against England. The duo, who picked up injuries in the series against Australia have been asked by the management to skip the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The BCCI will be announcing the Indian squad for the next two Tests and the following 5 match T-20 series against England post the end of the second Test. The return of the pace duo will make India’s bowling look as lethal as anything. Shami, especially, with his abilities to seam the ball will be very crucial for India in the day-night Test in Ahmedabad.
“Saini is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He has bowling at full tilt. The Delhi selectors wanted to have his services for the Vijay Hazare Trophy but Saini was asked to stay back at NCA as he is likely to join the team in Ahmedabad,” a BCCI source told TOI
Talking about the selection of players like Ishan Kishan, Nitish Rana and Siddhart Kaul, the official said that since there are no India A tours, these players will fill the gap if someone from the squad gets injured.
“This is the reason they were asked to report to NCA for fitness tests. These players have been informed that they will be in standbys for the India T20I team. This is the reason why Rana wasn’t made the captain of the Delhi team for the Vijay Hazare tournament. These players could be called into Indian team anytime. They will be essentially appearing for trials,” the source added.
