Mitchell Starc claims fastest Test fifer, achieves career-best 6/9 as Australia humble West Indies for 27

Mitchell Starc etched his name in the history books with a stunning performance in the third and final Test against the West Indies in Kingston. Chasing a target of 204, the West Indies were bowled out for just 27—their lowest total in Test cricket and the second-lowest ever in the format.

Starc led the Australian pace attack with incredible figures of 6 wickets for just 9 runs. He had also picked up one wicket in the first innings, finishing the match with 7 wickets, and was named Player of the Match.

Starc bowled the first over of the innings and delivered a three-wicket maiden, removing John Campbell, Kevlon Anderson, and Brandon King. He added two more wickets shortly after, and ended the innings by dismissing Jayden Seales.

In the process, Starc became the fastest bowler to take a five-wicket haul in Test cricket, doing it in just 15 balls. The previous record was 19 balls, held jointly by Ernie Toshack, Stuart Broad, and Scott Boland.

Best Test figures and Series honour

His 6/9 is now Starc’s best-ever bowling performance in a Test innings, beating his previous best of 6/48 against India in Adelaide in 2024.

Not just Player of the Match, Starc was also named Player of the Series for his brilliant all-round performance—15 wickets and 46 runs across the three Tests.

He is now also the fourth-highest wicket-taker for Australia in Test cricket history.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Starc said: "Worked out pretty well for the week. Fantastic series, difficult batting conditions. Very enjoyable few days. We saw last night the conditions with the hard newish ball is difficult. It was pretty blustery and we were on the money."
