“SKY and his team should be proud of their work” - Mitchell Santner lauds Team India after their title win

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner has stated that his team was completely outplayed by a ‘great team’ in front of a great crowd, admitting that India were home favorites, having a big sea of blue supporting them throughout the game.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Santner asserted that New Zealand fought hard throughout the campaign despite facing several challenges, but added that India were better on Sunday night.

"Proud of the boys to make it this far. Obviously, we had some challenges throughout, but at each stage we put up a good fight. Today, we got outplayed by a great team in front of a great crowd. To see a big sea of blue, obviously India were home favourites," Mitchell Santner said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

Furthermore, Santner also lauded the Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, for putting up an exceptional show despite a lot of pressure at home. Notably, India emerged as the first and only team to defend the ICC T20 World Cup title.

"Obviously, we’re not the home favourites, but yeah, credit to India to win a title at home, it always comes with a lot of pressures. And I think, SKY and the boys should be pretty.. very, very proud of their work. Different guys stood up at different stages. In the Super Eight and semi-finals, we put up a good fight, but tonight we were obviously outplayed," he added.

Delving into the details of the final, India batted first after losing the toss and posted a daunting total of 255/5 in 20 overs, courtesy of Sanju Samson's 89, Abhishek Sharma's 52, and Ishan Kishan's 54. James Neesham pocketed a three-wicket haul for NZ.

In the chase, New Zealand got all out for 159 runs in 19 overs, losing the game by 96 runs. Tim Seifert was the top scorer with 52 runs in 26 balls. Jasprit Bumrah picked up a four-wicket haul while Axar Patel pocketed three wickets.
