Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has revealed that his national team would respect the criticism back home Down Under after the team’s early exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Speaking at the toss ahead of their fourth group stage clash against Oman, Marsh asserted that the team would reflect on ways to get better moving forward, adding that the whole team was quite disappointed not to make it to the next round of the showpiece event.
"Yeah, we certainly respect the noise back home when things don't quite go to plan for us as a team. We sort of know that's coming, we respect it. We reflect on ways to get better moving forward. But the last couple of days, obviously, a really disappointed group to not make through the Super 8s,” Marsh said at the toss ahead of the game against Oman.
Australia, the limited-overs titans with six ODI and one T20I World Cup titles, failed to progress to the Super 8 round after failing to create an impact in the group stage. While they started the campaign on a winning note against Ireland, they suffered two consecutive defeats against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, suffering an early elimination from the group stage.
Delving into the details of the group stage game between Oman and Australia, the former batted first and posted 104 runs in 16.2 overs. Adam Zampa was the wrecker-in-chief with a four-wicket haul, conceding 21 runs in 3.2 overs.
In the chase, Australia finished off the game in 9.4 overs with nine wickets in hand, ending the tournament on a winning note. Mitchell Marsh (64*), and Travis Head (32) were the dominators in the chase.
