Eoin Morgan is one of the most successful skippers of England in white-ball cricket. He first led the team in 2011 and used to be a stand-in skipper till taking over in 2015. In the 126 ODI games he had led so far, the Three Lions have won 76, lost 40, tied two, and eight games ended in a no-result. Talking about his T20I captaincy, he has led the team in 72 games, won 42, and lost 27.

Notably, MS Dhoni also led India in 72 games out of which the Men In Blue won 41, and lost 28. Morgan's captaincy also includes the 2019 World Cup success. The Englishmen won the 50-over World Cup for the first time since its inception in 1975. Three years into the glory, the former Ireland player is now struggling for runs and fitness.

However, Morgan officially retired from international cricket on Tuesday. His batting numbers in ODI and T20s (including T20Is and domestic T20s) are abysmal in the last 18 months. In five ODIs, he has managed only 103 runs. On the other hand, the 2019 World Cup-winning skipper has only 634 runs in 43 games of the shortest format.

Thus, Jos Buttler is the front runner to lead England as he is the vice-captain. The keeper-batter has led the team on a few occasions and did the same against The Netherlands recently. Meanwhile, former England skipper Michael Vaughan earlier stated that it is a no-brainer to make the wicketkeeper batter the skipper of the white-ball team. The Yorkshire player said that Buttler is the best white-ball player in the world and has a very smart and calm cricket brain.

"For me it's a no-brainer that Jos Buttler takes over England's white-ball captaincy role. He's the best white-ball player in the World, he's got a very smart cricket brain, & he's got that calmness you need," Michael Vaughan said to The Daily Telegraph. Thus, it will be exciting to see who replaced Morgan as England's white-ball skipper. Apart from Buttler, a few other options include Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali.
