On 18 April, Surisers Hyderabad (SRH) hosted Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing IPL. However, MI registered their third consecutive win this season by 14 runs. Cameron Green won the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance. But, Tilak Varma played a short but impactful inning for MI.

In 17 balls, Tilak smashed 37 runs including two fours and four sixes. Now, in five matches, this young batter has scored 214 runs, at an average of 53.50 and a strike rate of 158.52. But, during the post-match presentation, MI skipper Rohit Sharma hinted at a team India call-up for Tilak.

“I like Tilak's approach. He is not afraid.” - Rohit Sharma

After the win, MI and team India skipper Rohit Sharma said: "I like the approach of Tilak; we will see him in some other team as well soon (smiles)". Speaking of the match, MI batted first and scored 192 runs for five wickets in 20 overs, Green scored 64* runs off 40 balls while Tilak scored 37 runs off 17 balls. In reply, SRH got bundled out for 178 runs and registered their third loss this season. Another youngster Arjun Tendulkar also performed well as he picked up his first IPL wicket in the match.

Speaking about it, Rohit Sharma said: “We have been talking about setting the tempo early. One of us needs to bat deep, but as long as we are getting big scores, we are happy. We have a deep batting line-up, and we need to make sure they bat freely. I like Tilak's approach. He is not afraid. He is not playing the bowler, he is playing the ball. It's quite exiting to play with Arjun. Life has come full circle. Arjun has been part of the squad for the last three years. I have seen him grow. He understands what he wants to do, and he is quite confident he can do it. He is trying to swing the new ball, and bowling yorkers at the death.” But, some fans did not like the statement from Rohit as they felt that would be harsh on other deserving players for a long time now.
