One of the standout youngsters from IPL 2025, Ayush Mhatre, is gearing up to lead India U19 on the upcoming tour of England. Ahead of the tour, Mhatre visited former Team India Test captain Rohit Sharma’s house, where Rohit gifted him a bat. Mhatre shared an image of himself with Rohit, holding the bat, with a caption on Instagram: "A bat, a blessing, and a memory of a lifetime — thank you Rohit da."
In IPL 2025, while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mhatre impressed with the bat and showcased his talent at the top of the order. The young Mumbai batter replaced the injured CSK skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and the way he performed suggested he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He scored 240 runs in seven innings at an average of 34.28 and a strike rate of 188.97, including one fifty.
Now, a big opportunity awaits Mhatre as he is set to lead India U19 against England U19 in their home conditions. The series is scheduled to take place from 24 June to 23 July 2025, and will include a 50-over warm-up match, a five-match Youth One-Day series, and two multi-day matches.
Alongside Mhatre, another promising talent from the recent IPL, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, is also part of the squad. He lit up the tournament by smashing a 38-ball 101 against Gujarat Titans (GT), and all eyes will be on how he performs in England.
Initially, both Aditya and Khilan were part of the squad, while Deepesh and Naman were named as stand-by players. However, during the ongoing high-performance camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, Aditya suffered a stress fracture in his lower back, and Khilan sustained a stress reaction in his right leg.
As a result, Deepesh and Naman were brought into the main squad as replacements. Alongside Mhatre, his deputy Abhigyan Kundu will also be looking to make an impact on the upcoming tour.
India U19 Squad: Ayush Mhatre (Captain), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Vihaan Malhotra, Maulyarajsinh Chavda, Rahul Kumar, Abhigyan Kundu (Vice-Captain & WK), Harvansh Singh (WK), R. S. Ambrish, Kanishk Chouhan, Henil Patel, Yudhajit Guha, Pranav Raghavendra, Mohammed Enaan, Anmoljeet Singh, D. Deepesh, Naman Pushpak.
