The most-awaited World Test Championship (WTC) final took place at the Oval on 7 June 2023. Team India locked horns with Australia and Rohit Sharma managed to win the toss. After that, Rohit opted to bowl first and then, both teams came up for singing their respective national anthems before the clash.
Then, all players from both teams were seen wearing a black armband and they observed a moment of silence also as a mark of respect to the victims of the horrible Odisha train accident. The incident happened in Odisha's Balasore district on 2 June 2023 when the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, headed towards Chennai, got derailed. Seeing such a heartwarming gesture, fans lauded both teams on social media.

275 people got killed and more than 1000 people were left injured in this terrible accident
Speaking of the match, Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first and confirmed that Ravichandran Ashwin failed to make a place in the final playing XI. He said: "We are gonna bowl. Just the conditions and also its a bit overcast as well. We gotta play good cricket and come out on top. We got 4 seamers and 1 spinner that is Ravindra Jadeja. Its always been tough as Ashwin has been such a match winner for us over the years and leaving him on such an occasion has been a tough decision but you got to do the things that is needed for the team and eventually we came up with that decision.”
Australia skipper, Pat Cummins said: “We would have to bowl as well. Hopefully, it will not make a lot of difference as it will spin a little bit on Day 4 and 5. Yeah, no Hazlewood, so Scotty Boland, Lyon, me, and Starc. And the batters are the same as usual. Hopefully, looks like a little bit of grass and it should be a key weapon. We have been here for ten days. Some of us have been even longer. We are fresh for this." However, India made a good start as Usman Khawaja scored a duck off 10 balls before getting out to Mohammed Siraj. After the first 10 overs, Australia reached 26 runs for one wicket with David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne at the crease.
