“I’ve never been that stressed in my life in a cricket game” - Lungi Ngidi as South Africa clinches nail-biting win in a double Super Over

South Africa bagged a dramatic win in the second Super Over against Afghanistan in the 13th match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, February 11.

Delving into the details of the game, South Africa posted 187/6 in 20 overs. In response, Afghanistan got bundled out for 187 runs in 19.4 overs, levelling the scores. Lungi Ngidi scalped a crucial three-wicket haul.

In the first Super Over, Lungi Ngidi was tasked to bowl with Afghanistan posting 17/0. In response, South Africa also went on to level the score at 17/1, moving the game to a dramatic second Super Over.

In the second Super Over, South Africa managed to post a whopping 23 runs. In response, Afghanistan fell short by four runs as they posted 19 runs before losing both of their wickets to lose the game in a nail-biting fashion.

"I've lost so much weight today. I've never been that stressed in my life in a cricket game. But I'm happy to come out on the winning side. I actually knew that I was probably going to be the option for the Super Over,” Lungi Ngidi, POTM, said after the game.

“So so unlucky at the end to be a part of losing team. But I think overall we have given all the efforts in the ground. And just a matter of the result, we haven't got the right result,” Afghanistan captain said after the match.

“There's a room for improvement, that we can be better and ultimately you are grateful for the win and for the points. Ultimately in Super Overs you're probably picking your most confident guy. The guy who has done really well throughout the game. It was Lungi. Didn't miss by much in that first over but they still got a really good total,” South African captain Aiden Markram said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
