LSG Playing XI, IPL 2025: Best probable playing XI of Lucknow Super Giants

Since joining the IPL in 2022, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have showcased quality cricket, qualifying for the playoffs in their first two seasons. However, they endured a disappointing campaign in 2024, finishing seventh. This underwhelming performance prompted a complete overhaul, with the franchise deciding not to retain or buy KL Rahul.

Ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction, LSG retained only five players: Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Ayush Badoni. At the auction, LSG made headlines by signing Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for ₹27 crore, making him the highest-paid player in IPL history. 

With a revamped squad of 24 players, LSG will aim to return to the playoffs and contend for their maiden IPL title. The biggest question for LSG is their ideal opening combination. Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram, or Mitchell Marsh could partner young Indian star Arshin Kulkarni at the top. 

Pant, known for his explosive starts, might also be better suited to the number three or four position, depending on the team’s strategy. Nicholas Pooran remains LSG’s most consistent and destructive batter, and the team will aim to utilise him effectively in the middle order. 

David Miller, is renowned for his finishing abilities, giving fans hope for impactful performances in the lower middle order. The strength of LSG lies in its Indian bowling unit. Shahbaz Ahmed, a spinning all-rounder, adds balance to the team alongside Ravi Bishnoi, who will lead the spin attack with his leg-break bowling.

The pace department boasts three promising Indian bowlers: Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, and Avesh Khan. Mayank was a breakout star in the previous season, impressing with his raw pace and ability to unsettle batters. However, his fitness will be a key factor as LSG looks to manage his workload across the season.

As an option, Ayush Badoni, one of the retained players, offers flexibility with his ability to bat in both top and middle-order slots. His explosive batting style could see him used as a floater.
