Longest sixes in IPL history (Source: Twitter)
Every squad in a competition like the IPL requires a few players who can smack massive sixes at will. The viewers can enjoy the game more because of these power hitters because they expect to see some long sixes in the competition. The longest six in history was hit by Nicholas Pooran in the most recent IPL, going for 106 metres. It came as little surprise, given Nicholas Pooran's free-flowing innings. Other powerful players, including MS Dhoni and Sanju Samson, could also hit sixes at a distance of 100 metres.
Who has struck the longest six in the richly funded league? Albie Morkel, a former all-rounder, is the answer, which is unexpected considering that legends like MS Dhoni and Chris Gayle failed to claim the top spot. In the inaugural game, which took place in 2008, Morkel hit a 125-meter six against Pragyan Ojha while he was representing Chennai Super Kings. He is the only player in IPL history to run farther than 125 metres. Fans can still recall Morkel's explosive performance against RCB, scoring 28 runs off one over from Virat Kohli.
Bowlers are leading the list for longest sixes in the IPL
Similarly, the second person on the list is not a batsman with specialisation. Praveen Kumar is a dark horse on this list after hitting a 124-meter six against Lasith Malinga in the IPL 2011. When Adam Gilchrist played for the Punjab squad that year, he struck a 122-meter six. Robin Uthappa is ranked fourth in the record list thanks to his 120-meter six while representing RCB in the IPL 2010 season.
Chris Gayle, the "universe boss," is tied for sixth place with his 2013 season 119-meter six. Yuvraj Singh, another player with a reputation for making sixes, has also made a 119-meter six. Ross Taylor, whose IPL career began in 2008 with RCB, made a 119-meter six in the first season.
In the IPL 2016 championship game, Ben Cutting scored an explosive knock of 39 runs off just 15 balls to help SRH win the match. He blasted a six in this inning that travelled 117 metres, leaving Chinnaswamy Stadium. With 117-meter sixes each, Gautam Gambhir and Liam Livingstone are next on this list. For PBKS, Livingstone will participate in the 2023 edition of the IPL.
