List of ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year Winners from 2004 to 2024

The ICC awards were introduced by the sport’s governing body in 2004 to reward top performers of the year in international cricket. The Men’s Cricketer of the Year award is given annually to the best cricketer in the world. The first-ever ICC award ceremony was held in September 2004 in London and since then, they’ve been giving away the awards.

The Men’s Cricketer of the Year is given the trophy by the name of Sir Garfield Sobers and Rahul Dravid was the first recipient of the award.

Only once the award has been shared in the last two decades, in 2005. Jacques Kallis and Andrew Flintoff, South Africa and England all-rounders respectively, were named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year winners in 2005. The award was shared as there was a tie in the voting. The winner is determined by the ICC Voting Academy and global fans, during the voting period.

Ricky Ponting was the first player to win the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award twice in 2006 and 2007. Mitchell Johnson and Virat Kohli are the only other cricketers to be honoured with this award more than once.

Notably, India’s Jasprit Bumrah became the first Indian pacer to win this award in 2024 for his exceptional performance in Tests and T20Is. He was the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup and was simply brilliant in Tests picking up a lot of wickets.

Apart from Bumrah, only four other Indian players - Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kohli - have won the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award so far.
