SunRisers Hyderabad needed five runs off the final delivery to defeat Rajasthan Royals. Sandeep Sharma was bowling when Jos Buttler caught Abdul Samad, and RR began to rejoice. The joy was short-lived, though, as the umpire called "no ball."

On Sunday, May 7, in Jaipur, Abdul broke the Rajasthan Royals' hearts when he hit the ball for a six over Sandeep's head, and SRH defeated RR by four wickets. With the victory, SRH rose to ninth place in the IPL 2023 points table, knocking Delhi Capitals back to last.

Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, stated that the no-ball "ruined" RR's performance but praised SRH batsmen for "sensibly" playing the game. The defeat will keep RR in fourth place in the IPL 2023 standings. Samson continued by saying that he had faith in Sandeep Sharma's ability to defend in the decisive over because he had done so previously against the Chennai Super Kings.

'Matches like these make the IPL special' – Sanju Samson

"This is what IPL gives you; matches like these make the IPL special. You can never, never, never feel like you have won the game. I knew any opponent could win it, and they were batting well too, but I was confident with Sandeep (for defending in the final over). He has won us a game in a similar situation (against CSK). He did it again today, but that no-ball ruined our result.

"We played really well with the bat to put up that kind of a score on this wicket, but I think they (SRH) batted really sensibly; credit has to go to them for the way they batted."

After Jos Buttler hit 95 and Samson played a quickfire knock of 66 not out off 38 balls, the Rajasthan Royals made 214/2. When asked if RR could have scored more, Samson responded, "That's a great question... I don't know.

"With the target we posted, you can only feel happy once you win the game, right, so not at all happy at the moment. To be honest, life is never easy playing this format, especially in this tournament. Each and every game, we have to play our best standard of cricket. We will come back and try to do it again."
