Kandy Warriors are set to cross swords with Dambulla Giants in match 18 of Lanka Premier League (LPL). Often in any franchise-based T20 competitions, winning crunch moments are important. The Warriors have failed to do so far and are languishing last in the points table. They have won only one game and have lost five.
The last loss against Colombo Stars was a bitter pill to swallow. They had the match under their control for close to 39 overs but yet again failed to deliver the knockout punch. Skipper Angelo Perera in a post-match conference said he believes the team still has a chance. For that to happen, the Warriors have to win the rest of the matches and hope few results go in their favor.
For Giants, the equation is simple as they are currently placed third on the points table. A win in the next games will take them through. However, the Giants have slipped in the last two matches as they suffered two losses against Kings and Gladiators. On both occasions, the Giants batters were undone by the spinners.
The track in Colombo is on the slower side and the spinners are going to play a big role in the match. In case there is rain, the teams will be keen to chase due to the possibility of a curtailed game. However, if the weather is clear, they should opt to bat given that chasing is a stiff task on this surface.
