Galle Gladiators are set to cross swords with Dambulla Giants on Tuesday in a crucial encounter. The former is placed third on the points table, with two wins and three losses, while the latter has three wins to its name. The Gladiators have slipped a bit after their four-wicket over Kandy Warriors. They were beaten by Kandy Warriors by five wickets in a return match and later lost to Colombo Stars by 41 runs. On both occasions, their batters failed to post competitive scores. Only Kusal Mendis has looked good in the middle. Skipper Bhanuka Rajapaksa has failed to contribute after managing to start the tournament well. All-rounder Samit Patel has looked good with bat and ball but has lacked support.
The Giants are coming off a thumping seven-wicket loss against the Kings. The team was all out for just 69, with Phil Salt top-scoring with 23. This season has all been about his contribution at the top. If the England batter has failed, the team has not been able to post huge totals. He is the leading run-scorer of the tournament, scoring 203 at an average of 33.83.
The pitch looks exhausted after back to back games. It has got considerably slow and timing the ball hasn’t been easy. The par score has also come down.
Average score: 155 (in LPL games so far)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 6, Lost – 7, N/R – 1
