Lanka Premier League 2022 schedule announced, the final to be played on 21st August

The much-awaited Lanka Premier League will return to enthrall the cricket fans with its riveting cricketing action from 1^st August 2022 as Sri Lanka Cricket announced the schedule for the mega event on Tuesday. The third season of Sri Lanka’s premier T20 league will begin with the defending champions Jaffna Kings taking on the last year’s runner-up Galle Gladiators.

There are a total of 24 matches to be played in the grand event with 20 league matches and four final-round games which also includes the Mega Finale of the tournament. The two stadiums will bear witness to the exciting cricketing action of the league which are RPICS, Colombo and MRICS, Hambantota. The first 14 games will be played at Colombo while the next ten games will take place at Hambantota.

The tournament will treat its fans with double headers every day from 1^st August to 17^th August. The day games will start at 3:00 pm while the night matches will begin at 7:30 pm. Total of five teams will be contesting in the tournament and will bring their best cricketing skills to the fore to have their hands on the coveted trophy.

The five teams which will be taking the centre stage are Jaffna Kings, Galle Gladiators, Colombo Stars, Kandy Falcons and Dambulla Giants.

All the five teams were involved in fierce bidding for their favorite stars during the recently concluded Player Draft which was held on 5^th July 2022 for the upcoming season. The Draft included 180 international players and 173 Sri Lankans. Carlos Braithwaite, Dwaine Pretorius and Imad Wasim had the teams in a frenzy as they bid for these big names in international cricket. The trio were the most expensive players from the draft. They were placed in the ‘international ruby’ category with a base price of 60,000 USD.

Jaffna Kings are the undisputed kings of the Lankan Premier League being crowned champions in both the editions so far. The star-studded team will be eyeing their third consecutive title this year to complete a hat-trick of title victories.
