The World Test Championship (WTC) final got underway on 7 June 2023 at the Oval between India and Australia. Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked Australia to bat first. He claimed that the overcast conditions are the reason behind opting to bowl first in this much anticipated final at the Oval.

For Australia, David Warner and Usman Khawaja came out to bat. But, after Khawaja’s early dismissal, the number one-ranked batter in the longest format of the game, Marnus Labuschagne came out to bat. But, he scored 26 runs off 62 balls before getting out to a peach of a delivery from Mohammed Shami. The video went viral and seeing that, fans shared their views on social media.

Australia scored 73 runs for two wickets in 23 overs in the first session

Speaking of the video, the wicket came on the first delivery of the 25th over. Mohammed Shami bowled a full seam-up delivery. Labuschagne went for a drive but his front foot got stuck. Thus, the ball beat the inside edge and uprooted the off stump. Speaking of his innings, he got hit twice by Indian bowlers. First, Mohammed Siraj hit his left thumb on the first delivery of the eight over. Then, Umesh Yadav hit the thumb again on the fourth delivery of the 17th over. He managed only to hit three fours.

Speaking of Australia, Khawaja scored a 10-ball duck as they lost their first wicket on two runs. Then, Warner and Labuschagne scored 69 runs together for the second wicket. Warner scored 43 runs off 60 balls, including eight fours. They went for lunch after scoring 73 runs for two wickets in 23 overs. In the second session, Labuschagne departed quickly and after that, both Steve Smith and Travis Head steadied the ship again. After 36 overs, they scored 125 runs for three wickets. Head started to take on the Indian players with some blistering shots all around the park.
