Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have included the uncapped trio of Lahiru Udara, Shiran Fernando and Ishan Jayaratne in their 25 member squad for the India series. The Lankan Lions will cross swords with the Men in Blue in three ODIs and as many T20Is starting July 18. Youngsters Dhananjaya Lakshan and Praveen Jayawickrama, who have played one ODI each for Sri Lanka have also been added to the squad.
Meanwhile, pacer Lahiru Kumara, who last played for Sri Lanka in an ODI in 2019 and T20I in 2020, also finds a place in the squad. Lahiru was part of the team that took on Bangladesh in a Test match earlier this year but his participation was cut short after he picked up a hamstring injury on day 3 of the first Test. Later, he was infected with COVID- 19 and was ruled out of the West Indies tour.
Ahead of the series, Sri Lanka were dealt with a huge blow as their ace batsman Kusal Perera was ruled out of the entire series against India due to a shoulder injury. The Sri Lanka team will be led by Dasun Shanaka while Dhananjaya de Silva will be his deputy.
