England and Australia are currently in action in the ongoing 1st Test of the iconic Ashes series at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. Many fans and experts have cited that England will be the favorites because of their aggressive batting approach, popularly known as ‘Bazball’ which was named after their head coach Brendon McCullum.
Meanwhile, the 1st day of the Test isn’t looking quite well for the Three Lions as the Australian didn’t give much freedom to the English batters and kept picking wickets at a regular interval of time. The first ball of the match went for a four which was hit by Zak Crawley, who ended up hitting a brilliant half-century.
Despite getting a great start, England kept losing wickets as they first lost Ben Duckett in the 4th over after which Crawley and Ollie Pope stitched a brilliant partnership of 70 runs. However, the Australian experienced spinner broke the partnership as he dismissed Pope on the score of 31 runs. Crawley also left the ground after a brilliant delivery from Scott Boland got him caught behind the wickets.
Can Australia continue its winning run?
England's young batter Harry Brook looked really confident but got unlucky as he got bowled in a most bizarre way. Skipper Ben Stokes couldn't do much and departed after scoring just 1 run. Australia will try to start off their title defense with a commanding performance. In the most recent WTC final, which was held at The Oval in London from June 7–11, the Pat Cummins–led team defeated India. The Australian team benefited greatly from the contest, with Travis Head and Steve Smith in particular scoring heavily.
Smith scored 121 runs in the first inning on 268 balls. In the same innings, Head also hit 163 off 174 deliveries. Additionally, Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon, each claimed five wickets in the combined two innings of the WTC final. Since their victory at home in 2015, England hasn't taken home the Ashes, and Australia has won both of the series in 2017–18 and 2021–22 with 4-0 victories. In 2019, when the five-match series concluded in a 2-2 draw, they also kept the urn.
