On 1 July 2023, Galle Titans (GG) were in action against B-Love Kandy (KF) in Colombo in the fifth match of the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL). GG came to this clash after winning their first game while KF suffered a loss in their tournament opener. So, GG were looking to continue its momentum while KF were looking to open their account.

Speaking of the match, GG won the toss and opted to bat first. Then, they posted 180 runs on the board for five wickets in 20 overs. Tim Seifert was the sttear as he scored 74 runs off 39 balls, including five fours and five sixes. Apart from him, some valuable cameos came from Shakib Al Hasan who scored 30 runs while Shevon Daniel scored 25 runs. 

GG defeated KF by 83 runs in the fifth game of LPL 2023

For KF, Aamer Jamal, Mohammad Hasnain, and Wanindu Hasaraga took one wicket each. But, when they came out to bat, all players failed miserably as they got bundled out for just 97 runs in 17.1 overs. Thus, GG defeated them by 83 runs and registered their second consecutive victory in the tournament. For GG, Kasun Rajitha, Richard Ngarava, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets each. Both Akila Dhananjaya and Lahiru Samarakoon took one wicket each. Seifert won the player of the Match award for his knock.

After receiving the award during the post-match presentation, he said: "Just wanted to be positive, keep momentum and put the seam bowlers under pressure. And keep rotating strike off the good balls. Two from two so hope the boys keep it up." While the Galle skipper, Dasun Shanaka said: "Seifert and Shakib showed how to bat on this surface and how good they are in this format. They have played all around the world and know how to operate, it's something the local boys should learn from."

On the other hand, after two consecutive losses in two games, the Kandy skipper, Hasaranga said: "We haven't played our best cricket. We have six games to play, we should keep our heads up. We've not done our best in all three departments.”
