Team India are currently busy playing the ongoing home T20I series against the Kiwis. However, after that, all fans are eagerly waiting for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The series will kick off on 9 February 2023 in Nagpur. However, after the squad announcement, Suryakumar Yadav made headlines as he bagged his maiden Test call-up.

After showing his terrific batting abilities in the shortest format of the game, many former cricketers have come up and said that Suryakumar Yadav needs to play the longest format of the game also. So, fans were happy to see him in the squad for the upcoming home Test series against Australia.

Suryakumar Yadav scored 223 runs in two matches in this ongoing Ranji Trophy season

However, based on the available squad for the first two Tests, Suryakumar Yadav might find it tough to get a place in the playing XI. But, now reports have been circulated that Shreyas Iyer is yet to get fully fit and might miss the first Test. Then, Suryakumar Yadav might get a debut cap in the first Test only. According to the reports of the Indian Express, a source close to the Indian Cricket Board said: “His injury hasn’t healed as expected and he will take two weeks at least to play cricket again. He will certainly not be available for the first Test and his availability for the second Test will be subject to his fitness report.”

Speaking about Iyer, he was not a part of the three-match ODI series at home against New Zealand. He suffered a back injury and now, Iyer is in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for his rehab. He last played for team India in the home ODI series against the Lankans. In that series, he scored 94 runs in three matches. On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav made a great comeback in this Ranji Trophy season for Mumbai. He scored 223 runs in three innings, at an average of 74.33. But, after such reports, fans came up with some mixed reactions and shared them on Twitter.
