Rohit Sharma and his men began the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on 9 February 2023 in Nagpur. Every fan was expecting to see the Indian skipper in some form with the bat in this longest format of the game. He missed the last Test series in Bangladesh due to the finger injury he sustained during the ODI series in Bangladesh. 


However, he is coming off after a great ODI series at home against the Kiwis. In that series, Rohit scored 186 runs in three innings. He scored a fifty and a century in that series. So, the Indian skipper was looking to continue that form in the red-ball format also. Speaking of the match, Rohit Sharma failed to win the toss and thus, Australia opted to bat first in the series opener.

He had a forgettable 2022 as a player for the Men in Blue. In 2022, India played 71 matches across all formats. But, Rohit Sharma missed 32 matches through injury, illness, and workload management. So, fitness has been a concern for the Indian skipper throughout his illustrative career so far. Even, fans have always come up with criticism over his fitness over the years. Speaking of the match, Rohit Sharma used his bowlers beautifully as Australia got bundled out for just 177 runs in 63.5 overs. For India, Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets and Ashwin took three wickets. Shami and Siraj took one wicket each.     


Then, skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came out to bat for the home side. They gave a great start to the side as the first wicket fell after 76 runs. KL Rahul scored 20 runs off 71 balls. Including one boundary. But, Rohit Sharma did not disappoint his fans as he finished the day with an unbeaten knock of 56* runs off 69 balls. He managed to hit nine fours and one six. So, fans were happy to see him in such a form.
