On 28 June 2023, the second Test of the ongoing Ashes series began at the Lord’s. England lost the series opener at Edgbaston and hence, their ‘Bazball’ approach came under the radar. So, the home team were looking for a comeback while the Aussies were looking to extend their lead to 2-0.

Speaking of the match, Ben Stokes won the toss and asked Australia to bat first under an overcast conditions. England bowlers were expected to perform well from the start of the innings. But, David Warner and Usman Khawaja gave a good start to the visitors. They put up an opening partnership of 73 runs in 23.1 overs.

Steve Smith has now 32 Test centuries

Khawaja failed to continue his dream form from the last game as he got out on 17 runs off 70 balls. Then, Warner played some shots and scored 66 runs off 88 balls, including eight fours and one six. Then, Marnus Labuschangne and Steve Smith stitched a solid partnership of 102 runs for the third wicket. But, the former number one-ranked Test batter got out on 47 runs off 93 balls. Then, Travis Head came in and played a counterattacking knock of 77 runs off 73 balls, including 14 boundaries. He and Smith put up a solid partnership of 118 runs for the fourth wicket.

Joe Root struck twice on the same over as he grabbed the wickets of Head and Cameron Green. Finally, Alex Carey and Steve Smith finished day one as Australia were at 339 runs for five wickets in 83 overs. Smith finished the day with an unbeaten score of 85 runs while Carey was batting on 11* runs. So, on day two, all eyes were on Smith if he could manage another Test century in his career. However, he did not disappoint as Smith notched up his 32nd Test century. Finally, he got out on 110 runs off 184 balls, including 15 fours as Josh Tongue took his wicket. Fans were over the moon with another top knock from the Aussie batter.
