A magnificent knock of 96 off 59 from Shubman Gill helped Gujarat to their third win of the Indian T20 League. They became the second team after Lucknow to win three consecutive games this season. Chasing a challenging total of 190, Gujarat was never in trouble. Shubman Gill went berserk from ball one and kept the innings afloat. Gujarat lost Matthew Wade for not much but Sai Sudarshan complimented Gill brilliantly with a knock of 35. Gujarat was cruising to a win before a few tight overs got Punjab back in the game.

The situation went in favour of Punjab when Gujarat needed 19 off the last over. On the first ball of the final over, Gujarat lost Hardik Pandya and the game was almost over for Gujarat. With 13 needed off 2 balls, the victory was unlikely but an unnecessary throw from Odean Smith of his own bowling brought the equation to 12 off 2. Rahul Tewatia then hit two sixes off two balls to seal the game by 6 wickets.

Earlier, Gujarat won the toss and put Punjab in to bat. The team lost Mayank Agarwal and Jonny Bairstow early. However, Shikhar Dhawan kept the scoreboard ticking. He was joined by Liam Livingstone, who carried his form from the last game. Livingstone smashed bowlers to all parks and raced his way to 64 off 27 balls.

While Livingstone was striking big from one end, Punjab kept losing wickets at the other end. At one point, Punjab looked like scoring more than 200, however, the wicket of Livingstone left them reeling at 153-6. Shahrukh Khan departed on the next ball. Two runs later, Rabada walked off and it seemed that Punjab will be bowled out. However, cameos from Rahul Chahar (22 off 14) and Arshdeep Singh (10 off 5) pushed Punjab to 189.
