Former Sri Lankan batter and commentator Kumar Sangakkara has slammed the English middle-order batter Harry Brook for playing a rash shot to get dismissed off the Indian seamer Akash Deep on the fourth day’s play of the ongoing Lord’s Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Moving into the details of his dismissal, Brook took on Akash in the 20th over of the second innings, smacking two consecutive fours and a six to finish off the over. However, when Akash came out to bowl in the 22nd over, Brook tried to sweep him for a maximum, but he couldn’t get the ball onto his bat as he got bowled for 23 runs off 19 deliveries, putting England in trouble 15 minutes before lunch.
Sangakkara, who was in the commentary box then, said, "It is just arrogance. Not even Bazball".
Furthermore, the former Indian head coach and commentator Ravi Shastri also lashed out at Brook for his shot selection, stating that had he connected, he could’ve got only one run with the risk element being huge.
"Brook can be destructive - the impact he wanted to make with those two reverse sweeps, he did that. But I think he is too good a player to put his wicket at risk at that stage of the game. It was a nothing shot. He was only going to get one run even if he connected. The risk element was huge," Ravi Shastri told Sky Sports.
Eventually, England got bundled out for 192 runs in 62.1 overs, with Joe Root being the top scorer with 40 runs in 96 balls. On the other hand, captain Ben Stokes also had a decent role in the middle, scoring 33 runs in 96 balls.
In the 193-run chase, India was looking in all sorts of trouble, reeling down at 58/4 in 17.4 overs at stumps on Day 4.
