The ninth match of the ongoing IPL 2023 took place on 6 April as Kolkata Knight Riders locked horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens. RCB were coming off after a win over Mumbai while KKR lost the season opener against Punjab Kings. So, the home crowd were expecting a better show from Nitish Rana and his men.

Speaking of the match, Faf du Plessis won the toss and asked KKR to bat first. David Willey came into the playing XI in place of the injured Reece Topley. For Kolkata, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Venkatesh Iyer came out to open the innings. But, Iyer scored only three runs off seven balls.

Then, the bad form of Mandeep Singh and Nitish Rana continued with the bat. Singh scored a golden duck while Rana scored only one run. However, Gurbaz scored 57 runs off 44 balls, including six fours and three sixes. The star all-rounder Andre Russell also scored a golden duck in his 100th IPL match. Then, star team India all-rounder Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh scored 103 runs for the sixth wicket. Thakur scored 68 runs off 29 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. On the other hand, Rinku hit 46 runs off 33 balls, including two fours and three sixes.

These innings helped KKR to score 204 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. For Bangalore, both David Willey and Karn Sharma took two wickets each while Siraj, Bracewell, and Harshal Patel grabbed one wicket each. For Bangalore, Virat Kohli and the skipper Faf du Plessis came out as openers. But, all batters failed miserably against the KKR spinners as they lost eight wickets for 86 runs in 13 overs. Finally, they got bundled out for 123 runs in 17.4 overs. For KKR, Narine took two wickets, and debutant, Suyash Sharma grabbed three wickets. Varun Chakravarthy grabbed four wickets for 15 runs in 3.4 overs.
