Krunal Pandya gets emotional after getting his maiden ODI cap

Krunal Pandya

Representing the country at the international level is a wonderful feeling for any sportsman. And surely, it is a moment that will be etched in the mind of the player forever. 23rd March 2021 is an extremely special day for Krunal Pandya. He became the 233rd cricketer to represent the Indian side in the ODI format.

Pandya received his maiden India ODI cap from his brother and Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya. And, Krunal got emotional upon receiving the coveted India cap. He looked up at the sky, perhaps remembering his late father who passed away earlier this year. He also hugged his brother Hardik, and even wiped off a few tears as well, as his long-term dream was fulfilled today.

And, Krunal Pandya definitely deserves a spot in the Indian ODI setup. Pandya was in scintillating form in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy. The left-hander amassed 388 runs from just 5 innings in the tournament and scored his runs at a whopping average of 129.33 and a strike rate of 117.93. Pandya also blasted 2 fifties and 2 hundreds in the 5 innings that he played in the tournament.

Pandya is also a veteran in the IPL, and has featured in 71 matches in the cash rich league. While he has scored 1000 runs in his IPL career at an average of 24.39, Pandya has also taken 46 wickets with his left arm spin at a decent economy rate of 7.27 runs per over. Pandya will be hoping to put up a good performance in his debut ODI outing for his country.
