“I have no idea how no IPL team went for him” - Kris Srikkanth reveals game-changing moment in IND vs NZ, 3rd ODI

Former Indian chairman of selectors Kris Srikkanth has heaped praise on New Zealand middle-order batter Glenn Phillips, who scored an exceptional century against India in the third ODI in Indore as the Black Caps sealed the ODI series 2-1.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth lauded Phillips for his exceptional run-scoring rate, stitching a 219-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Daryl Mitchell. While Phillips went on to score 106 runs with nine fours and three sixes, Mitchell smacked 137 runs in 131 balls with 15 fours and three sixes.

"No. 5 is the position for Glenn Phillips and he equally played well in the previous game. He didn’t play in the V and stuck to playing in long-on, mid-on and mid-off. Phillips did play the short-pitched delivery to mid-wicket but hit sixes straight. The wicket was superb and the ball was coming on well, so it was pinging off the bat," Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

Furthermore, Srikkanth felt that the New Zealand skipper Michael Bracewell’s cameo of 18-ball 28-run unbeaten knock was the reason behind the BlackCaps posting more than 330 runs in 50 overs. Also, he was surprised not to see any IPL franchise bagging Bracewell’s services.

"Michael Bracewell’s knock was crucial too and it was the reason New Zealand jumped from 300 to 330. He hit sixes effortlessly. I don’t understand how no IPL team went for him. Bracewell couldn’t bowl due to some injury but I have no idea how no IPL team went for him. I don’t understand how IPL teams select their players," he added.

Delving into the details of the third ODI, New Zealand was tasked to bat first after losing the toss as they posted a daunting total of 337/8 in 50 overs. In response, India could score only 296 runs in 46 overs before getting all out. Virat Kohli (124), Nitish Reddy (53) and Harshit Rana (52) were the top batters, but their knocks went in vain.
