“Who’s your all-rounder?” - Kris Srikkanth doesn’t support the possible Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja trade

Former National Selector Kris Srikkanth criticizes CSK’s rumored Sanju Samson–Ravindra Jadeja swap, arguing Jadeja is irreplaceable as an all-rounder and key match-winner for IPL 2026.

One of the most talked-about things ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 retentions is Sanju Samson's possible transfer to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja to Rajasthan Royals (RR), following a mutual agreement to include Sam Curran in the transaction. Should the trade take place, CSK would be receiving an established wicketkeeper-batter and losing a top-tier all-rounder.

After winning three Indian Premier League (IPL) titles with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Jadeja's affiliation with the team will come to an end. He has played 200 games for CSK since joining the team in 2012, which is tied for second place with Suresh Raina.

Although he doesn't question or minimise Samson's skill, former Indian selector Kris Srikkanth has stated that having all-rounders in each T20I team is crucial. Additionally, he believed that although CSK already had Urvil Patel, the wicket-keeper batter, for the position for which Sanju Samson is being introduced, they lacked a player with Jadeja's all-around talent.

“Without Jadeja, who’s your all-rounder in CSK? Having an all-rounder is very important; it’s the key role in the T20 format. I am not discounting Samson, who’s superb. I’ve been reading that Sanju Samson will slowly be developed as the successor to Dhoni. But for that, you’ve Urvil Patel already. He’s also a wicketkeeper batter,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

He also talked about how the lack of quality available in the mini-auctions would force CSK to locate a new all-rounder on the market. The former player claims that someone like Cameron Green cannot match Jadeja's skill with the ball, citing Jadeja's 170 IPL scalps.

“By leaving Jadeja, CSK will have to scout for another all-rounder. Someone like Cameron Green is not a tried and tested material. He’s not a great all-rounder. He’s a batter who can bowl and fill in the four overs. He’s not a deadly bowler. Jadeja can win matches with his batting, bowling or fielding,” he added.
