Lucknow registered their fourth consecutive win after beating Kolkata by 75 runs on Saturday at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Batting first, Lucknow notched a formidable score of 176 runs in the first innings.
Skipper, KL Rahul, unfortunately, got run-out in the very first over of the innings, however, Quinton de Kock played an outstanding knock of 50 runs in 29 balls to get the team off to a superb start. Deepak Hooda gave him valuable support with a 41-run handy knock in 27 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Krunal Pandya (25 off 27) struggled during his stay at the crease but Marcus Stoinis (28 off 14) and Holder’s (13 off 4) cameo, in the end, helped the team reach a competitive score on the board.
As for Kolkata, Andre Russell was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 2 wickets for 22 runs in 3 overs. Tim Southee (1 for 28) and Narine (1 for 20) also returned with impressive figures but Shivam Mavi (1 for 50) went for plenty of runs, especially in the end.
In response to the score, Kolkata were bundled out for just 101 runs, thereby losing the game by a huge margin of 75 runs. Kolkata made a horrible start as they lost 4 wickets for just 25 runs. The likes of Shreyas Iyer (6 off 9) and Aaron Finch (14 off 14), once again, failed to hit the straps.
Andre Russell showed some hopes with a 19-ball 45-run knock but wickets just kept falling at regular intervals. For Lucknow, both Avesh Khan and Jason Holder were brilliant with the ball. The duo picked 6 wickets between them.
In-form bowler, Mohsin Khan also started well in the powerplay. He conceded only 6 runs in his three overs and picked one wicket as well. With that win, Lucknow have reached on the top of the points table. On the other hand, Kolkata are now languishing at number 7 on the table with 4 wins in 11 matches. Their hopes of reaching the qualifiers are now hanging by a thread.
Here’s a look at some of the top reactions from the game:
If this is the state of the batting then better open with Sunil Narine. This is painful for the eyes. #IPL2022#LSGvKKR

#KKR season over. Had higher hopes from Shreyas Iyer as debut captain for the franchise. Questions need to be asked of coach Brendon McCullum's concept of batting that has impacted his side more than often. #LSGvKKR#IPL2022

Annihilated. That kind of season for @KKRiders. Even the red hot (before the #IPL) @ShreyasIyer15 has looked down & out. They have been poor, just poor as a team. The Beast Dre Russ their only star of the season. Another NEW franchise tops the table🙂#KKRvLSG#LSGvKKR#IPL2022

That should be the end of #ShivamMavi's #IPL career. He has been in the setup for far too long, and such irresponsible bowling is not to be tolerated. If #KKR loses today, it's heavily upon him. #IPL2022#KKRvsLSG#KKRvLSG#LSGvKKR#LSGvsKKR

This is not a poor pitch to bat on. This is just poor batting from KKR.#IPL2022#LSGvKKR
