India will host the ODI World Cup for the fourth time. The Men in Blue have not won a World event since the Champions Trophy win in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. They will want to buck the trend in home conditions and do something special for the loyal fans at home. In 2011, India last won the World Cup.

Ahead of the 2023 World Cup, Virat Kohli one of India’s best batters found an admirer in Marcus Stoinis. The two have played an Indian Premier League (IPL) season together with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Kohli has been in great nick in ODIs and India will count on him to score the big runs in the World Cup.

Virat has a special quality of performing on the big stages – Marcus Stoinis

“Virat Kohli pumps himself on the big stage – his intensity is more in big games, once he is there, it’s tough to stop him – Kohli does more often than anyone in big stages and that is a special quality,” Stoinis said in an interaction with Rev Sportz. Kohli and Stonis have been friends. The duo played an Indian Premier League (IPL) season at Royak Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

India and Australia will play an ODI series ahead of the World Cup. Australia last beat India in India 2-1Β  when they played three ODIs. Ahead of their series against South Africa, it was reported that Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc have suffered injuries. Spencer Jhonson who made a name for himself in Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA could get to make his ODI debut in South Africa.

In recent times The Kangaroos have gotten the better of the Men in Blue in ODIs and have been a thorn in India’s skin. India’s first World Cup encounter will be against Pat Cummins-led side at the M.a Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The World Cup will be played in 10 venues in India. The 50-over tournament will be Rohit Sharma’s litmus test as India have not managed to win big tournaments under him.
