English captain Joe Root continued his good run and smacked a brilliant 100 on the first day of the opening Test against India. He along with Dominic Sibley toiled the Indian bowlers and stitched a mammoth 200 run partnership. The conditions in Chennai were taking a toll on the players and Joe Root was definitely struggling with the humidity. At one point of time, Joe Root couldn’t even stand and fell down due to the cramps. At that point, Virat Kohli came to Root’s rescue and was seen flexing Root's leg to help him with the cramps.
Kohli’s kind gesture was appreciated by the English skipper in the press conference after the end of day’s play. The BCCI uploaded the video of the incident with a caption #SpiritOfCricket.
Kohli is known for his kind gestures on the field. Earlier, he was praised for requesting the Indian crowds to not boo Steve Smith. Talking about the match England finds themselves in a strong position and ended the day at 263 for 3. Joe Root remained unbeaten on 128 while Dominic Sibley fell for 87 on the final ball of the day.
