Virat Kohli, India (Source: Twitter)
Virat Kohli’s stardom is not just limited to Cricket, he is a global superstar who is well-known for his diverse portfolio. In a recent survey conducted by a mass Media outlet called Ormax Media, Virat Kohli topped the charts in their most popular Sportsperson for May list. Notably, MS Dhoni followed him in the second position while football icon Cristiano Ronaldo joined the Indian Cricket duo at number 3. Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar filled up the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Talking of Virat Kohli, he was last in action for India in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final against Australia at The Oval, London. Kohli had a disappointing outing in the coveted one-off final. He failed to make any major impact while batting in the first innings while in the second, he got out for a run short to complete his half-century. India ended up on the losing side, that too with a huge margin of 209 runs. Team India’s cloud of confidence was humbled by the men from down under with a dominant performance in all departments.
Virat Kohli supported the idea of a ‘best of three’ model for future WTC Finals
Following the disappointing final, Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Team India suggested a new model to determine the champions of the upcoming cycles of the World Test Championship. Supporting the same, Virat Kohli said, "If it is a Test series, it has to be a test of character over three Tests - which team has the ability to come back in the series, or totally blow away the other team. It can't just be pressure applied over two days of good cricket and then you suddenly you are not a good Test side anymore. I don't believe in it.”
Kohli is expected to be in action in the upcoming tour of West Indies. While the star batter can have some time off against considerably weaker opposition, he should feature in the two Tests, at least. In what is a crucial year, including the ODI World Cup, the upcoming series will be a prep tour for Team India.
