Team India is set to play without their regular skipper Rohit Sharma in the first of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The Indian camp would be hoping for the quickest recovery of the skipper so that he can make himself available for the second Test against the hosts. Notably, both teams will play the series opener on Wednesday, 14th of December at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhary Stadium in Chattogram.

Coming back to Rohit Sharma, the 35-year-old has been ruled out of the first Test due to an injury in his left thumb during the second of the recently concluded three-match ODI series. Rohit sustained the injury while attempting a catch of Bangla batter Anamul Haque in the second slip.

Meanwhile, stand-in skipper KL Rahul also talked about the possibilities of Rohit’s availability in the second Test. KL Rahul also cleared the air about the current update on Rohit’s injury.

"Rohit Sharma is a very important player for us and an experienced player and captain of our team so we will miss him. India will miss Rohit Sharma as a captain and batsman, we are hoping that he can recover quickly and will be back for the 2nd Test," said KL Rahul during the pre-match press conference.

Later on, KL Rahul also explained the criteria for selecting senior batter Cheteshwar Pujara as the vice-captain but not Rishabh Pant.

"I at least don't know what the criteria are, whoever is picked you give yourself a pat on your back. Even for me, when I was named the vice-captain, you get happy, I have the responsibility of the team. It really doesn't change much, everybody knows their role and responsibility and how much the team appreciates their contribution. Rishabh and Puji both have been brilliant for us, and have done the job so many times. Itna Jada sochte Nahin hai jo hai (We don't really think that much), he tries to take responsibility. We carry on as a team," he added later.
