If reports are to be believed, Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper KL Rahul is all set to part ways with the franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Rahul has been a magnificent performer for PBKS. Having joined the team in 2018, the opener has amassed over 600 runs in three of the four seasons. The only time he didn’t breach the mark was in 2019, where he scored 593 runs. While Rahul has done splendidly well with the bat, as a skipper he has failed to help PBKS get their hands on the title.
As per a report in Cricbuzz, the opener has been approached by multiple franchises and it’s very likely that Rahul will play for another team in the IPL 2022. At the moment, the BCCI has not revealed the retention policy and the franchises are not sure about retentions and right to match cards (RTM) available. The RTM allows the franchises to retain current players. Once the details are out, a better picture will be on display.
Meanwhile, Rahul entered the team India bio-bubble after PBKS were knocked out of the IPL from the group stage. As per reports, the mega auction for the IPL 2022 will take place during the T20 World Cup. If Rahul is available for bidding in the auction, the stalwart is sure shot to fetch big money.
Meanwhile, in another development, BCCI is likely to ask Harshal Patel, Shivam Mavi and Venkatesh Iyer to stay back in Dubai to help the Indian team in their training. Earlier, BCCI added SRH pacer, Umran Malik, to the contingent as net bowler.
