In a major setback to Punjab Kings, KL Rahul has been diagnosed with acute appendicitis. It is learned that Rahul complained of abdominal pain last night which didn’t get better with medication. He was taken into the emergency room where the diagnosis was made. Rahul will undergo surgery to get the issue sorted out. This has put Rahul’s participation in the remaining matches of IPL in Jeopardy as he will need around three weeks to completely recover from the surgery.

The development was confirmed by the Punjab Kings on Twitter.

“KL Rahul complained of a severe pain last night and after not responding to medication, he was taken to the emergency room for further tests which revealed that he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis. It will be resolved surgically and for safety measures he has been transferred to the hospital for the same”

Rahul’s loss is a massive blow to Punjab Kings as he was the only batsman who looked in some sort of form for them. Rahul is the current holder of Orange Cap with 331 runs in seven games. Punjab Kings will also have to look out for a new skipper. At the moment, Chris Gayle looks the most probable candidate as he led Punjab for a while in the last game as well. As a batsman, Mayank Agarwal, if he is fit, or Mandeep Singh is likely to replace KL Rahul.

Punjab Kings have struggled as a team and have lost four of their seven games. They are currently settled at the 5th spot in the points table. They are set to lock horns with Delhi Capitals tonight at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
