The much anticipated Indian Premier League 2025 is here and the tournament is expected to start with a bang. The opening clash is scheduled between a fierce rivalry of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders. The match is slated for March 22 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The two teams share a pretty good rivalry between them which has led to some of the most iconic matches between the two sides. While some faces may have changed, especially in the leadership roles, the competition between them is not expected to die down so easily.

Both the teams have done pretty good at the auctions table and have gathered up pretty good blokes to make a fantastic XI on the field. 

The Bengaluru side will have a new face in leadership role in Rajat Patidar, while he would have Virat Kohli for assistance as and when required in decision making. KKR, on the other hand, have an experienced face in Ajinkya Rahane, who might be helping groom Venkatesh Iyer for leadership roles.

The fans are really excited for the match and the onset of another edition of the Indian Premier League, but the weather in Kolkata might play a spoilsport for everyone. An anticyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring significant rains to Kolkata, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). With thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusts expected from March 20 to 22, the city is already under an orange alert.

Although there is just a 10% chance of rain before the beginning of the game, by 11 PM, that number is predicted to increase to 70%. A full washout or a reduced game using the DLS system is still very likely if the weather worsens. 

Both teams will split one point if they are abandoned, which would be a disappointing start to the 2025 Indian Premier League. Fans from both teams would be hoping for better weather.
