Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have unveiled a new jersey for the 18th season of the TATA IPL. Their launch video highlights the number "3," representing their three IPL titles. The jersey features three stars on the fabric and a golden IPL badge on the arm to commemorate their victory last season.
Inspired by a "Three-edged Star," the design aligns with their championship legacy. Fans can purchase the jerseys through KKR’s app, website, and social media platforms. Alongside the jersey launch, KKR introduced the #InTheKnightSky campaign, where they named three actual stars after their famous motto: "Korbo," "Lorbo," and "Jeetbo"—a tribute to their 2012, 2014, and 2024 triumphs.
The franchise will begin its 2025 IPL campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens on March 22, aiming to secure a fourth title. Meanwhile, on the same day, KKR announced Ajinkya Rahane as their new captain.
There was speculation that Venkatesh Iyer might be handed the role after KKR bought him for INR 23.75 crore, but he was instead appointed vice-captain. Speaking on his appointment, Rahane said, “It’s an honour to be asked to lead KKR, which has been one of the most successful franchises in the IPL. I think we have an excellent and balanced squad. I look forward to working with everyone and taking up the challenge of defending our title.”
“We are delighted to have someone like Ajinkya Rahane” - KKR CEO Venky Mysore
KKR CEO Venky Mysore expressed confidence in the new leadership duo, stating, “We are delighted to have someone like Ajinkya Rahane, who brings his experience and maturity as a leader. Also, Venkatesh Iyer has been a franchise player for KKR and brings a lot of leadership qualities. We are confident that they will combine well as we start the defence of our title.”
Rahane’s appointment as captain appears logical, given his experience leading teams in domestic cricket, international matches, and the IPL. However, spending a record amount on Iyer only to make him vice-captain raises questions.
KKR may be looking to groom Iyer for future leadership, as Rahane, at this stage of his career, is unlikely to be a long-term captain. To justify his hefty price tag and prove himself as a potential future leader, Iyer will need to deliver match-winning performances in the upcoming season.
