India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been left out of the preliminary squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. Not to forget, he was also left out of the Asia Cup 2023 squad. Meanwhile, recent reports suggest that his wife, Dhanashree Verma is set to appear in the tournament's theme song 'Dil Jashn Bole' releasing on September 20. The song will also feature Bollywood star, Ranveer Singh.

Meanwhile, India's final squad will be released on September 28. Before this, the team will play three ODIs against Australia on September 22,24, and 27. On September 5, the preliminary squad has been announced.

India squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Axar Patel, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav.

Meanwhile, former India off-spinner and two-time World Cup winner isn't happy with the exclusion of Chahal. The former has been left guessing about what went wrong that led to Chahal's exclusion.

“Yuzvendra Chahal should have been here. He has not been given an opportunity. It is beyond my understanding. Either he has fought with someone or he has said something to someone, I don’t know. If we talk only about skill, his name should have been there in this team because a lot of Team India players are resting,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by Circle of Cricket.

On the other hand, chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained that the team is looking for a player who bats at number eight ahead of Asia Cup 2023.

"We want somebody who can bat at that spot. Axar being Axar, he had a good run this year, and batted well in white-ball cricket, especially. He did not get a lot of opportunities in red-ball but he batted well in white-ball cricket, especially in the IPL. In the West Indies tour, he couldn't get a lot of opportunities because he bats at the backend. With him being there, it allows us the option of first having a left-hander whom we can use up the order and go in to play the spinners. He can do that for us.
